| Tuesday, March 09, 2010 Registration: 7:30:00 AM Program: 8:00:00 AM On the morning of Tuesday, March 9th, IFMA will host a panel discussion on adopting green strategies to optimize facility management. The panel will include Phyllis Barber, Highmark’s Sustainability Coordinator, and Benson Gabler, PNC’s Manager of Corporate Sustainability. Phyllis and Benson will provide examples of green initiatives that their respective organizations have implemented, such as installing green roofs/walls, conducting waste audits, retrofitting light fixtures, instituting green cleaning practices, developing sustainable dining services, and calculating carbon footprints. The panelists will speak for the first half of the session, and then open it up for questions and comments.
Sustainable, Eco-Friendly and Green (SEG) Business Practices at Highmark: Being sustainable, eco-friendly and green means that Highmark considers the impact of our business decisions on the environment and the community. The goal of SEG is to conserve energy and resources to obtain positive economic, environmental and social outcomes for our company. Sustainable, eco-friendly and green projects at Highmark include a variety of facility management, community and business projects that will help to create a healthier work environment for our employees and for the communities where we do business. This meeting will be held at One PNC Plaza in Room 1 on the 16th floor. Please sign in at the Security Desk, and they will direct you to the correct elevator. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and breakfast will be served. THERE WILL BE NO WALK-INS FOR THIS PROGRAM. |

| Phyllis Barber & Benson Gabler Phyllis Barber - Sustainability Coordinator Phyllis Barber holds the position of sustainability coordinator for Highmark Inc. Since Highmark created the position in 2007, Ms. Barber has been responsible for overseeing Highmark’s sustainable, eco-friendly and green (SEG) business practices. She develops sustainability policies and environmental management goals for Highmark and is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of Highmark’s SEG initiatives. Ms. Barber has lead a variety of SEG projects for Highmark including the reduction of paper usage by encouraging e-delivery of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) for Highmark members; the implementation of a 22,000-square-foot green roof at Highmark’s Pittsburgh headquarters; and the education of employees about internal and external resources related to SEG practices. Prior to her role as sustainability coordinator, Ms. Barber was an internal audit team leader for Highmark. In this role, she evaluated internal controls and the efficiency of internal business processes and procedures with a focus on financial, operational, compliance, reputational and fraud risk. Prior to joining Highmark, Ms. Barber was an audit manager with Deloitte & Touche LLP in the Pittsburgh and Dublin offices. In this role, she performed audits of company financial statements and internal controls. Ms. Barber holds her Certified Public Accountant license and is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. She serves as co-chair for Champions for Sustainability, a program of Sustainable Pittsburgh that works to accelerate the practice and policy of sustainability in the business and civic circles in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Ms. Barber also serves as chair of a sub-group of fellow sustainability professionals from companies and universities in the Pittsburgh region. Benson Gabler - Title Manager of Corporate Sustainability Benson Gabler is the Manager of Corporate Sustainability for the PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC). In this position, Mr. Gabler is charged with the coordination of the company’s sustainability strategy, which focuses on lowering PNC’s direct impacts on the environment, expanding its green products and services, and educating its stakeholders on environmental issues. His initial projects have revolved around operational improvements in waste management, dining services and procurement decisions, as well as calculating the company’s carbon footprint. He also leads PNC’s Product + Service Innovation Team, researches cutting-edge technology and evaluates potential products and services that will improve PNC’s facility operations and environmental commitment. Mr. Gabler has previously worked on sustainability issues for Stonyfield Farm, Yale University, GreenBlue Institute, and Braungart Consulting. He holds a BA from the University of Virginia, and a MBA and a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) from Yale University. |
